At Papa Turf we understand that each yard is unique and requires a different approach. We take a more personal approach to lawn care than our competitors. We work with our customers to design the best lawn fertilization program for your yard.
Atlanta lies in an area of the US known as the transition zone. The transition zone is where the cold climates of the north meet the warm climates of the south. Unfortunately, this means that there isn’t just one grass type that grows best in this area. Winter temperatures are too cold for some warm-season grasses to survive and too hot in the summer for some cool-season grasses.
At Papa Turf we know which grasses grow well and which don’t. With our carefully crafted 7-step lawn care program, your grass will receive properly timed fertilizer treatments throughout the year. The results are thick and healthy lawns that can naturally fend off invasive weeds.
Weeds are a persistent threat to Atlanta lawns. They can grow almost all year-round and they are much more resilient than our grass. The key to weed control is getting them early. With our weed control program, we start first thing in the spring with an application of pre-emergent herbicides designed to prevent seeds from germinating. We follow up throughout the season with post-emergent herbicides to kill any weeds that pop up including:
- Yellow nutsedge
Here in Atlanta, our lawns get a lot of use from cookouts to parties. After a while, our lawns can start to show signs of fatigue. When our lawns start to look thin and weak it could be a sign of compact soil. The signs of soil compaction include:
- Hard Soil: Compact soil can make it difficult for roots to grow and take up nutrients.
- Pooling Water: Water running off your grass and pooling in low areas of your lawn.
- Spongy Grass: Thatch buildup of grass clippings and organic matter can exacerbate compact soil.
Aeration is a lawn care trick for revitalizing weak lawns. Lawn aeration is the process of using a machine to pull plugs of sod out of your lawn in order to allow air, water, and nutrients back into the roots of your grass.
Benefits of Lawn Aeration Include:
- Stronger roots
- Thicker, healthier grass
- Better water absorption
- More resistant to diseases and drought
Tree & Shrub Care
We know your trees and shrubs are important features of your property. Trees are an investment to any homeowner so you want to make sure they are taken care of properly. At Papa Turf we take a 7-step approach to tree and shrub care that provides them with the food and care they need to live on for decades.
Deep Root Injections
Deep root feeding is a service we provide at Papa Turf that involves injecting water, fertilizers, and other soil enhancers directly into the root system of the tree. This gets the fertilizer right where it needs to go without leaching and competition from other plants.
At the end of the year, we cap our tree and shrub program with a dormant oil application.
Dormant oil is used to kill soft-bodied insects and their eggs so that they do not infest your trees in the spring. These include:
- Tree Scale
Exterior Pest Control
Outdoor pets can be a big problem in Atlanta. Some lawn pests like grubs and armyworms can cause a lot of damage to your grass, while fire ants, fleas, and ticks can terrorize your pets and children. With our exterior pest control program, we can treat your lawn for these pests so that your lawn and your pets are safe. We treat for:
- Chinch bugs
- Fire ants
- Flea and ticks
